Rubio: ‘America cannot truly fulfill its destiny unless’ it ends abortion

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) gave a lighthearted personal anecdote this week amid a broader rebuke of the Obama administration's decision to disallow religiously affiliated employers from denying birth control coverage to female employees.

"I can tell you that none of my children were planned," the practicing Roman Catholic and father of four told Politico with a laugh. Apparently Rubio and his wife observe the Catholic Church's position of rejecting forms of artificial contraception.

Rubio, one of the more staunch anti-abortion senators and the only one to be endorsed by the Catholic Advocate PAC, has been one of the most vocal opponents of the birth control mandate since the administration announced it last month.

Obama mandates Church to pay for contraceptive costs

The Catholic Bishops of the United States are reportedly furious over what they call the “literally unconscionable” decision by the Obama Administration to require that contraception be included in virtually all health plans provided by religious-affiliated institutions to their employees.

The announcement means that the mandate and its narrow exemption will not change. Rather, there will be a delay in enforcement against some employers.

“In effect, the president is saying we have a year to figure out how to violate our consciences,” said Cardinal-designate Timothy M. Dolan, archbishop of New York and president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Dolan added, “To force American citizens to choose between violating their consciences and forgoing their healthcare is literally unconscionable. It is as much an attack on access to health care as on religious freedom. Historically this represents a challenge and a compromise of our religious liberty.”

Holcomb, who is now the mother of seven children and fiercely pro-life, kept that abortion, and her relationship with Tyler, secret for 35 years, until Tyler published an autobiography last year making what she says are scurrilous claims about their relationship.

“I had to become Silent No More right in my own home, I had no choice,” said Ms. Holcomb, whose life hit a low point in 1975, when she nearly died in an apartment fire and was then convinced to abort her baby at five months.

“In spite of everything, I do not hate Steven Tyler, nor am I personally bitter.” Ms. Holcomb said. “I pray for his sincere conversion of heart and hope he can find God’s grace, as I have.”

For starters, Tebow’s very existence is somehow controversial. He’s a walking pro-life testimonial. He’s been pulling off comebacks since before he was born. Pam Tebow, Tim’s mother, courageously chose to carry baby Tim to term despite doctors’ recommendations that she abort him. You may recall that before Tim went pro, the Christian group, Focus on the Family, commissioned an innocuous TV ad that ran during the 2010 Saints-Colts Super Bowl game. Any time a state seeks to defund Planned Parenthood, the White House absolutely freaks and threatens to remove Medicaid funding to the state's poor unless they pony up to Big Abortion.

Obviously, Big Abortion needs the money. But according to the latest numbers available at Live Action, Planned Parenthood reported 308 million in private donations from individuals, corporations, and foundations in 2009 but in 2010 they saw that number plummet to 223.8 million.

That's good news. Now we just need a White House that doesn't bully states like New Hampshire and Indiana to fund Planned Parenthood and the abortion zealots will have to raise their own money - which it doesn't look like they're doing such a good job of.

Just before Christmas the Dutch announced that they are considering mobile units to kill people in their own homes. 1,000 of the 4,000 euthanasia deaths in Holland each year are now done without the patient's consent. Not content with this, the Dutch say that 80% of people with dementia or mental illnesses are being 'missed' by the country's euthanasia laws. They say that the death-on-wheels mobile units are necessary because some GPs have refused to administer lethal drugs to their patients.

This isn't giving people "dignity in dying". Sending out mobile units to administer lethal injections, to "put people down", will strike fear into the hearts of the vulnerable. It diminishes the dignity and humanity of the sick and elderly and diminishes those of us who condone it.

Like most secular media, they miss most of the nuance, over-simplify and don’t really even make an attempt to show the other side. Even in interviewing Bishop Olmstead, it is clear to me, as a viewer, that most of what he said must have ended up on the cutting room floor. They have him state the facts and his conclusion, but his reasons seem largely edited to this viewer.

In the end we have CBS scolding the Catholic Church for not being what CBS thinks we should be. But the last time I checked, the purpose of the Church is not to be up to date and follow secular opinion. I think we generally answer to a higher authority who has already been pretty clear about the fundamental moral issues of our time.

If one seeks a denomination that is willing to be more in agreement with modern secular views, there are a good number of them out there. Funny though, they are even more challenged to find members than the Catholic Church. Time will prove where wisdom lies. (Monsignor Charles Pope)

The nutjobs at the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) always try to get noticed for how loony they’ve actually become. According to the LA Times:

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals put its Thanksgiving baby feast up for display in Philadelphia and, most recently, on Tuesday in Baltimore. “They set up a table” on a Baltimore sidewalk, PETA media coordinator Adam Miller told the Los Angeles Times, “like a Thanksgiving spread, with silverware and plates and stuff and the baby in the middle.” Not a real baby but a doll, he said, and the display featured signs that read, “Everybody’s somebody’s baby.”

What is PETA thinking here? They want us to treat animals like we do babies? Seriously? They’ve picked the wrong culture to shock people with what they are willing to do to children. Our national past time is killing children. We do it like it’s our job. 50 million killed and counting.

And let’s face it, vegetarians are a heck of a lot more respected than pro-lifers. (And vegetarians are way more annoying as a whole than pro-lifers.)

So if PETA is trying to tell us we should treat animals like we do children, they should really aim a little higher. For the animals sake.

October 26, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Two former employees of late-term abortionist Kermit Gosnell have pled guilty to 3rd degree murder charges for their roles in the deaths of an abortion patient and one baby born alive during a failed late-term abortion.
This is reportedly the first time that an abortion worker has been found guilty of murder for killing a baby.

Former Gosnell employee Adrienne Moton admitted her part in the murder of one baby. Another employee, Sherry West, pled guilty for helping to drug abortion client Karanaya Mongar to death during a botched abortion. Neither women had any medical training or licensing.

The pair also pled guilty to lesser charges, including participating in a corrupt organization.

The Obama administration released a Statement of Administration Policy today threatening to veto a bill the House plans to vote on tomorrow that ensures no federal taxpayer funding for abortions under Obamacare.

On September 9, 2009, President Barack Obama addressed a joint session of Congress and claimed about the Obamacare legislation: “And one more misunderstanding I want to clear up—under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions, and federal conscience laws will remain in place.”

To hold him accountable to that pledge, the House of Representatives will vote Thursday on legislation that would stop abortion funding in the program. H.R. 358, Protect Life Act, makes it clear that no funds authorized or appropriated by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), including tax credits and cost-sharing reductions, may be used to pay for abortion or abortion coverage. I followed along on a short tour that Catholic University gave on Tuesday to Hilda Solis, President Barack Obama's Catholic secretary of labor, who has spent much of her political career zealously advocating legalized abortion.

When Solis served in the U.S. House in 2003, she voted against the partial-birth abortion ban. The day President Bush signed it, she called for the Supreme Court to reverse it. "I would just like to say it's the wrong decision that the president is making today," Solis said, "and we have to stand up and challenge him."

On the 31st anniversary of Roe v. Wade in 2004, Solis celebrated three decades of abortion on demand.

"I'll take a pro-choice president, a pro-choice House, a pro-choice Senate," she said that day. "And I look forward to the day again when ... we can build a majority so that anti-choice legislation won't even come to the floor."

In 2009, when the nation was debating Obama's health care plan, Solis, now in the Cabinet, told the AFL-CIO convention that people who said the plan would fund abortion were lying.

"Don't believe the misinformation and distortions perpetrated by those whose agenda is only to kill reform at any cost, like that we plan to ... use federal dollars to fund abortions," Solis said. "These are lies and, as the president said, he is going to call them out."

Remembering that I'll be dead soon is the most important tool I've ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure - these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. . . .

No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life.

Too many Christians today think of death only as a punishment. Yes, death entered the world through Adam's sin; man was not meant to die. But the Fathers of the Church, especially the Eastern Fathers, saw death not only as punishment but as a gift. They understood Romans 6:23 in a way that all too many Christians today cannot comprehend: "For the wages of sin is death. But the grace of God, life everlasting, in Christ Jesus our Lord." Death is the gateway to eternal life. It is the door through which we who know, love, and serve God in this world must walk in order to be happy with Him in the next.

Had God allowed man to live forever after Adam had eaten of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, life on earth, the Fathers said, would have become a living hell. Death frees us from that possibility, and Christ frees us from death. The remembrance of death reminds us that the only thing we have to lose is our immortal soul. Take up your cross, and follow Christ, and everything else will take care of itself.

Steve Jobs' Stanford commencement address does not read like a Buddhist manifesto. There is something about it that, if not intentionally Christian, is at least consonant with the best of Christian teaching. I like to think that, when Jobs was composing it, the lessons of his Lutheran catechism kept bubbling up in his mind.
And any Christian whose life has been touched by the technology that Steve Jobs brought into the world will in charity also hope and pray that those same lessons came to mind yesterday, as he approached the final moments of his earthly life, surrounded by his beloved family and the guardian angel who never abandoned him even when he sought a different path.

Citing Obama administration actions, US bishops establish religious liberty committee

Archbishop Timothy Dolan of New York, citing recent actions taken by the Obama administration, has announced that the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is forming an Ad Hoc Committee for Religious Liberty.

“This basic right, in its many and varied applications for Christians and people of faith, is now increasingly and in unprecedented ways under assault in America,” Archbishop Dolan, the USCCB president, said in a letter to his brother bishops.

“The federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has issued regulations that would mandate the coverage of contraception (including abortifacients) and sterilization in all private health insurance plans,” he continued. “HHS is also requiring that MRS [Migration and Refugee Services] provide the ‘full range of reproductive services’ to trafficking victims and unaccompanied minors in its cooperative agreements and government contracts —and we all know what that means.”

“Catholic Relief Services is also concerned that USAID, under the Department of State, is increasingly requiring comprehensive HIV prevention activities (for example, condom distribution), as well as full integration of reproductive health activities including provision of artificial contraception, within a range of international relief and development programs,” Archbishop Dolan added. “The federal Department of Justice has ratcheted up its attack on the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) as an act of bigotry.”
Revealing that President Obama has not responded to private letters written by him and Cardinal Francis George, Archbishop Dolan stated that “I have offered to meet with the President to discuss these concerns and to impress upon him the dire nature of these actions by government.”

“The establishment of the Ad Hoc Committee is one element of what I expect to be a new moment in the history of our Conference. Never before have we faced this kind of challenge to our ability to engage in the public square as people of faith and as a service provider. If we do not act now, the consequence will be grave.”

A California anti-abortion group is taking another stab at ongoing billboard advocacy with a new campaign that aims to turn the focus toward male responsibility.

TooManyAborted.com has erected billboards displaying the words: “Fatherhood begins in the womb” and features a Black man kissing the belly of his pregnant partner. Sponsors of the campaign, The Radiance Foundation and the Issues 4 Life Foundation, have been active in attempting to reach the African-American community through provocative billboards, launching a “Black Is Beautiful” campaign earlier this summer. The groups received negative backlash, however, from pro-choice groups who protested to have the “Black Is Beautiful” billboards removed because they found them to be offensive.

“The abortion industry has created a culture of abandonment. Responsibility has become someone else’s concern, and death the solution to ‘unplanned’ pregnancies — the natural result of sexual behavior,” Ryan Bomberger, Black pro-life and adoption advocate, told LifeNews.com. “There’s nothing natural about an industry that generates over $200 million, annually, by killing a child left defenseless by the absence of a father.”
